Mogwai Pays Tribute to David Berman in New Song: “Ritchie Sacramento”
Scottish indie stalwarts Mogwai shared a new song this morning. The track, “Ritchie Sacramento,” is a taste of their upcoming LP, As The Love Continues, which is set to drop on February 19 through their own label, Rock Action. And in a very un-post-rock move, the song relies heavily on a vocal melody.
Mogwai frontman, Stuart Braithwaite, told NME that the song’s lyrics are an homage to David Berman, the late frontman of the Silver Jews and Purple Mountains:
“I was inspired by a story that Bob Nastanovich put online on the anniversary of the death of Dave Berman from Silver Jews...When they were students, Dave threw a shovel at a sports car. That’s the first line of the song: ‘Rise crystal spear’.” Braithwaite told NME.
Following “Dry Fantasy,” which the band released back in October, “Ritchie Sacramento” is the second track that the band has shared off of As The Love Continues.
