Tyler, the Creator sends a love letter to his teenage self with new music video “Corso”
Hot off the heels of his critically-acclaimed new project, Call Me If You Get Lost, Tyler, the Creator has released a music video for “Corso,” the album’s opening track featuring DJ Drama.
A love letter to his past, the video seems to imagine a young Tyler, the Creator looking into the future to glimpse his own success. The video opens on a teenager — assumedly Tyler, the Creator as a kid— who is down on his luck with a flat bicycle tire. He looks into the window of a building to see if anyone inside can help — but, instead, he witnesses himself as an adult performing with one of his childhood heroes DJ Drama.
Though technically, the teen is never called Tyler, the Creator by name, the video contains a couple of clues to help fans fill in the blanks. In addition to riding a bike, one of Tyler, the Creator’s long-standing lyrical motifs, the teen in the video is wearing one of the artist’s signature looks, a knit sweater vest of the Golf Wang variety.
If there were a time to flaunt to his younger self, it would be now. Revolt recently dug up this tweet from the rapper and producer circa 2010: “I WANT A GANGSTA GRILLZ TAPE SO FUCKING BAD GOT DAMN,” Tyler, the Creator tweeted, referring to DJ Drama’s legendary mixtape run with artists like Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and more. Call Me If You Get Lost includes multiple vocal features from DJ Drama, bringing that wish to fruition.
