Fucked Up get medieval on the operatic 19-minute+ song “Year of the Horse - Act One.”
Last week, the Canadian prog-core band Fucked Up dropped an epic almost-twenty-minute song called “Year of the Horse - Act One.” It’s the first track off of their forthcoming album, Year of the Horse. Music-wise, the song is long, all-over-the-place, and a whole lot of fun, just like the band’s previous Zodiac entries such as Year of the Snake (2017) and Year of the Hare (2015); listeners who never want the moshing to end will be treated to 19-minutes of pounding metallic breakdowns, duel wielding guitar solos, acoustic medieval spoken-word poetry, and shredding vocals.
Here’s what the band had to say about the song on Instagram:
“Started this record five years ago and have been slowly plugging away at it on and off while the world got madder and madder. Was a lifeline to have something to focus on last year. Is it an ep? Is it an album? Is it an opera? It’s a really long song that tells a really old story. For now let’s be glad we can share that.”
